This opalized wood comes from ancient forests in Indonesia, buried by volcanic ash and debris long ago and slowly transformed over millions of years as silica-rich groundwater replaced the original wood grain. Trace copper, iron, and manganese carried in that water gave rise to its signature palette — cool blue-green opal bands drifting into warm cream, gold, and brown tones left behind by the original wood structure, sometimes threaded with fine dark mineral inclusions. Each piece reads like a small landscape, with color settling into horizon-like bands that shift from piece to piece depending on how the silica moved through the grain.
